I wish I could help you Mary. If you google the question using the model of your Garmin you should find an answer that works.

From Google maps route to .GPX file on your computer

This website has a tutorial on how to use this converter to transfer the URL of a Google maps route (once you clicked on the map in one of the replies) to a .GPX file on your computer. Then you can use BaseCamp or MapSource to download it to your Garmin device.
