Well, the "crickets" starter relay chatter got to be so bad that I finally installed the Bench Mark Works replacement starter relay ( the OEM relay being Unobtanium now).
The OEM (and probably 1973 vintage) starter relay just didn't like the cold weather this month and I thought I might get stranded somewhere if I didn't take action, which I had been putting off for oh, 10 years.
With the Heinrich tank on the R75/5 here, it never sports an Elephant tank bag or anything else that will cause an accidental push on the starter button when the forks are turned. That's the only downside to the replacement relay is that it does not have the feature of disabling the starter button when the engine is running.
In addition to no crickets, I think the engine actually turns over better with the new relay.
Snowbum has lots on the late /5 starter relay "crickets" issue and you can find links to it here by searching with keyword "crickets".

Sounds like an improvement!! I notice on Bench Mark Works' existing parts list (all parts are now at MaxBMW) a relay is not listed. What part number did you order for this? Could someone get this at MaxBMW or EuroMotoElectrics? Notes I have is a Stribel SR 9570 but you might have to get creative with wiring to get the functionality.

Was repairing the existing relay not on the table as Snowbum describes?

The part number on the very faint receipt is:
61311357104B(or 8-can't tell)W

Different than part number on the box it came in as seen in photo

Thanks. Looks like the older Bench Mark Works site no longer has that part...it has 61311357104R replacement relay starter. Max BMW has this part.
