Charging question

There are two parts to this: 1) is the system putting out enough voltage, and 2) is that voltage making it to the rest of the bike.

1) Measure the voltage from the diode board positive to the diode board ground. If it's not 13.8 to 14.0, then you have some sort of charging or regulation issue.

2) If it is 14V, you are losing volts and it's pretty simple to find them with the voltmeter. Just walk your way around the system, make sure the diode board ground is zero volts from battery ground, etc.

One place that later Airheads can lose volts is between the timing cover and the engine block, since the alternator might only be grounded to the timing cover which isn't necessarily grounded to the block as well as it would seem.
