And about motorcycle police officers. Why the hell don't they wear gear. Shorty helmets, short sleeve shirts, tons of kidney breaking gear around their waists, cotton pants............and then they go 100 mph chasing folks. Insane! There needs to be a law.........I don't want to pay for a disabled officer for the rest of his life.

Sorry for the off topic, but it's a major pet peeve of mine.........

I asked a couple of motor officers from two of the departments I dispatch for about that. They said because its expensive, its hot, its bulky, and it restricts movement.

It really does bother me as well. I think maybe the next time I see the sheriff I'll ask him what he thinks. As long as they are wearing boots and helmets, I believe he leaves the gear issue up to the particular deputy.
 
No way near as expensive as a disabled police officer for 30 years. Many communities are now self insured...........

And not as bulky as a wheel chair...............
