Broken Pawl Spring - Roadside Fix

In the event that the pawl spring breaks, you will end up in whatever gear you were in. It can make it difficult to continue on the road if you were in first or fifth. But there is a way to shift to a reasonable gear (the video says 3rd) and then continue to get home or a place for help. Check this out:

Interesting that he emphasizes "it's made in Bavaria". He says that it was designed by the guy who had a transmission spring fail on him during his first ride of an Airhead!! That seems pretty coincidental.

Also notice the gear shift lever arrangement...interesting way to solve the problem of bigger boots, etc.

Snowbum also talks about this on his website:

You can make your own. It appears that Bob Sipps mod would let you install the mechanism and leave it in so that you could, from time to time, reselect a different gear, maybe at a stop or something.
