Billy Lane, the current Chopper Craze, Alcohol & Biker Culture

Slap at "Bikers"

Mr Lane's Lawyer friend's statement seems a bit odd when I think about it:

{Lane's close friend Steven Casanova, a Melbourne attorney, was stunned to hear about the accident. Casanova said Lane is not your "typical biker."

"Billy is a very low-key guy, but he's incredibly intelligent, " Casanova said.}

I suppose this statement could be taken to mean that a "typical biker" is High-key and not "Incredibly inteligent"??

Had it been a 90 year old retiree who ran over the unlucky man on the moped, we'd probably never heard the story. It would have gotten a paragraph in the local paper, someone would talk about possible legislation to require retesting of older drivers, and it would go away. The fact that Mr. Lane builds and rides cycles makes it that much more interesting to the typical reader, but much more sad for me, a fellow rider. I don't really care for the type of bikes he builds, but I doubt his first thought was, "at least it was just a scooter dude". While on my cycle, I did a similarly dumb pass on a double solid. It was just getting dusk, on a long straight away, and I was stuck behind some out of state terrorist....oops, tourist ,who was going 10 under the limit. I dropped a gear, double checked traffic and went. I didn't see the car coming at me without it's lights on until I was past the point of no return and was able to slip back into my lane a few yards before impact. I got a serious case of adreniline shakes, stopped at the next gas station and walked around shaking my head, wondering what my wife and kids would do without me around. All this to say, most drivers make bad choices once in a while, whether in a cage or on a bike. Sometimes those choices have serious and deadly consequences, sometimes it's just a wake up call, other times go unnoticed, even by the one making the bad choice. Mr. Lane will have to live with the consequences of his bad decision, unfortuneatly, the scooter driver doesn't have the opportunity.
