Best tires for my 2007 K1200gt?

I've always been happy with Metzlers on my rode bikes, but the K12 I just bought has Michelins and the service rep said they are the preferred tire of the local pd's around here, I should stick with them.

I'm thinking I should get the experience from members on this forum before deciding. What say the members on the best tire for the bike for wear/tread life and stability on the road? I plan on doing a 6-8K this summer over 4-6 weeks. Evenly distributed between highways and biways in the national parks of Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and then southeast ending in Fla for a few weeks with buddies I can stay with there--then hoof it back here to Az.

Appreciate your replies/experience and thoughts,

Brownie

I had a set of the Roadtec 01s but prefer the Michelin PR4s. (PR5 is out in January.) The Metzler's were a really good tire but the Michelin's are a really great tire. Like oil you'll get many different opinions and that's all I am offering. You can't really go wrong with any major brand tire any any more.
The important thing is to plan on taking pics and let us know about your trip! :dance

Thanks for the reply, I guess I am leaning toward the PR4's at this point.

Yeah, I agree completely! The last couple of summers before I set out on a long ride I put a fresh set on + good for about 12 k +/-. Have fun!

There are SO MANY excellent tires available, the term "best" takes on a subjective perspective. It comes down to how much grip you want, how often you ride in the wet, what kind of turn in characteristics you prefer, what kind of loads you carry (two up? with luggage? solo?), etc.

In the past 5 years I've ridden Metzler, Michelin, Dunlop, Continental and Avon. My current preference is the Dunlop Roadsmart II. That may change with the new PR5s. I guess my point is...you can't make a bad choice. :thumb

Great...I meant to mention the GT part. Now all we need is a bit of warm weather. Cheers!

Just got the bike back from 18K service. It needed an injector [ had all 4 replaced ], the water pump was leaking, so it was rebuilt, needed a new battery and alarm batt but the valves were all within spec [ no shims needed ]. It's running like a champ and I'm a happy rider once more.

Got 3 trip planned this summer,

3 states in June, 12 National parks/6 historical sites/runins. The the bmw rally in July and then Aug another 4 state in the northwest. New pr4gt's before the first trip and new tires after the 3rd trip late August on return.

Ouch, :thumb
