I would like to see more regional events/get togethers. The regional forums would at least concentrate the events closest to me.

Local clubs are important, no doubt, and the camaraderie that comes from them is very strong. However, there are many MOA members that don't belong to a club in their region. For example, I don't belong to either of the more local clubs, but I'd still like to get together with some of the locals I've met through this forum or some of the mailing lists I'm on.

There's not really a mechanism to encourage or facilitate that, to my opinion.

I agree with KBasa on this, I would love to see a place where Regional/Local Rides can be facilitated. I personally don't have time to check more than one site with any periodicity (sp?) due to work/family/etc. so I don't even belong to the Hill Country BMW group. I've checked into their website and it really doesn't have much in the way of forum type activity so if I want BMWMOA to be the place, then that's cool, I just would love to be able to meet with local Central TX riders if we can to chat/ride/hang when it's feasible. I can pretty much only get away on weekends for 2-4 hours at a time. Oh well....it is what it is and as I've done for years, I'll ride by myself if I have to.

While in Chromeheads a group of us local to each other created a sub group in Yahoo Groups for local "chatter" and ride set ups and wrenching sessions aka GTGs or Get Togethers. This kept the larger board free from chatter others have no use for.
You folks local to each other may wanna try this. It is free.
One thing: Make it so you have to register to keep the spammers out.

Having run afoul of Lee (username) in DGT and on Rounders, I have concluded that there is no place on forums for those who don't agree with the prevailing ideals.
As a result, I have limited my participation to technical airhead discussions with a very few exceptions, this being one of them. Congratulate yourselves on your victory/ accomplishment, but know that as many members are alienated by your acheivment as are attracted to your triumph.

Perhaps that is/was part of the problem, the MANNER in which such discussion were handled by certain individuals? (and this pertains to folks on both sides of the issues, not so much you in particular). Understand that I am only using your statement as one example of possible issue(s) that cause problems with certain types of discussions on forums in general, not as a personal attack.

Take a look at http://ukgser.com/home/where there's regional and national elements, without conflict, indeed most times there are cross boundary collaborations on rides.

It is still one community and stronger for all of its component parts.

Hope I got the link right, I'm still a member there...in fact, there is an overseas section that all BMWMOA GS riders should contribute to. They even have a section for those in the Military serving abroad and at home.

Judge for yourself if it's less fractious than this site. Check out the breadth of topics. See what you think. I remember a saying..."you shouldn't sh*t on your own doorstep" perhaps if there were the likelihood of meeting someone you'd banged heads with on the site, in person, you'd be less likely to have banged so hard.

Rocketman, I don't see a tiny bit of condemnation in my original post. Only a statement of conclusion that is entirely my own. I'd be happy to explore this further thru private channels with you or anyone else, upon request.
