Just came out. No remedies in the US yet.
Check with your dealers. See if your vin matches the recall.
 
Thanks for the update. I just got the letter for my starter relay the other day so I'll definitely not rush to get that fixed hoping I can knock it all out in one trip.
 
Is it a safety recall (with stop order taking) or a service bulletin, inspect and fix at the next maintenance like the driveshafts on the wetheads?

I surrender. What, pray tell,is an "oil sump control piston"???
When I hear/read things like this I go looking around, especially when a FB posting is referenced. Because “bad news can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting its shoes on”, I look for any real information.
Can’t find any yet.

I have seen this type of valving. Boxflyer’s picture seems to detail a proportional valving in relationship to engine speed (demands). Perhaps this is a new way to facilitate a “dry-sump” kinda deal. In the old days :gerg not having the crank/rod ends not passing through the “pool” of oil in the bottom of the crankcase was supposed to gain a bit of horsepower.
I will be curious if my guess is correct. In any case, once again, thanks to Boxflyer for chasing this down. 👍

With the design to keep the depth of the oil sump pickup area as shallow as possible this inertia controlled piston ensures that the supply of oil for the pump is always in the end of the sump where the oil is.
This is mostly for extreme situations of acceleration/deceleration…and of course “wheelies” or “stoppies”!
 
Thank you Boxflyer. Given what this device seems designed to do it would seem that a malfunction might be somewhat critical to the engine receiving proper lubrication. 1300 owners should pay attention to the details with this one.
 
Yes in a sump system if it is allowed to get too full it will whip the oil into foam. Foam does not flow like oil.

And with the transmission on the bottom of the motor, that little piston is pretty darn important, as has been pointed out.

Oil changes are going to be a bit of a change. My 05 LT had a sump system and was my introduction into a "wet" or submerged oil filter. It too a time or two to get used to it.

First year of a run and all that.
 
Had my 1300 in to have the starter relay recall done on Saturday. Had them check for this recall, it doesn't apply to my April built bike, and I was told they hadn't heard of it with any others either.
 
My dealer said they had heard of it but it was on a specific set of VIN numbers and mine was not included.
