'98 R11Rt-one dumb question, one rhetorical

I've always used the rear wheel to turn the motor for valve adjust. Today I'd like to use the crankshaft pulley to do so. I'm assuming (looking at the front, from the front) that it spins clockwise-that right? Question #2-why o WHY must I buy a complete rear master cylinder, when all I need is the rubber boot?:scratch:banghead

I always pull the front cover to turn the motor over (CW from the front is correct)
It allows me inspect the poly vee belt for deterioration while in there.

The Boot is sold as part of the assembly, why? Seems to be a common way things are sold these days - not just BMW, every manufacturer.
How bad is your boot? Can it not be held with an appropriate sized zip tie? That's how I solved the loose issue on a couple I've come across.

thanx--the boot is barely usable, a zip tie and a coat of rubber grease will get me down the road awhile. b

Take a look at eBay. There are probably some reasonably priced rear masters available. Either replace the boot or the whole thing.
