'98 R11RT needs lots o wrenchin'

well I finally sprung for a lift :) , what a change, my knees and back are rejoicing! Have ol' Issa strapped on and am pulling the TBs to rebuild which leaves me with 2 questions. 1) is there a simplified post/procedure for the 'compleat idiot' for adjusting the TPS? I don't have a 911GS device only a vom. I've read 'roger 04's postings and they just make my eyes spin (i'm not too bright). The mechanical process seems straight forward enough, just that tricky 'lectronic issue to deal with. 2) somewhere I read that the injectors for the R1200 series are a good upgrade, what with 4 holes versus 1 on my R11RT. Is there any ,non anecdotal evidence to back up that idea or should I just send mine off to be cleaned?
The splines haven't been seen for + 50K mi when last the clutch was replaced (Valentin motors in Greenlake). Plan on doing it my self (now that I have a lift!). Is there an idiot guide for that procedure? What is the best lube, now that Guard Dog is NLA?
With the new lift came a wheel balancer. Of course, it won't work on certain German wheels. Any idea where to get adapters for BMW wheels?
:scratch thanks all, I appreciate it. b

Although it seems intimidating at first, this is BMW’s procedure for the r1150: https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthrea...nd-Zero-Zero&p=1091142&viewfull=1#post1091142. Like a lot of complicated things, if you take them one step at a time they’re not so hard. Does the 1998 have a Bowden box?

I’m neutral on the R1200 injector idea. Others like it. Focus on completing your tune up first and then consider cleaning or replacing your injectors. Techron Concentrate Plus in the tank is the first place to start.

I'm kind of bored right now so if you could use some help? Anyway, I'm only 50 miles north from CB.:)

In regards to the spline lubrication, I did mine about 18 months ago and found this video by Chris Harris to be very helpful (as well as entertaining). I was lucky in that my splines were dry but in good shape. I ended up use the original Staburags lube since it seemed to work pretty well for 75K miles on the first round.

Hope this helps...

You say you only have a vom which I take to be a volt-meter. I'm no expert, but I've been using a homemade manometer that is just about 20 feet of vinyl tubing, tacked to a board in a U-shape with some trans fluid as the medium. That, in addition to a good volt meter seems to work pretty well for a low investment. There are youtube vids for how to make the manometers.

Word of advice, keep the plastic tubes away from your headers while doing the adjustments.... I was watching the vacuum balance through smoke to learn that lesson, followed by a trip to Lowes for more tubing... Plumbing is always a pain!

Sure wish I had a lift like you mentioned...
