'95 K75RT cooling system question.

Yesterday morning I noticed that the large radiator hose on my '95 K75RT seemed "deflated" (empty of coolant and under vacuum). When I squeeze it, there is no coolant in it. I don't recall seeing this before.

I went for a ride and the hose resumed its normal shape. I could feel coolant moving through the hose if I gave it a squeeze.

This morning the hose looks the same.

The coolant reservoir is full, I added a little coolant recently when doing an oil change.

I'm wondering if my coolant level is low even though the level in the reservoir is full. I have not had any warning light come on, and it is cool enough now that I don't hear the fan come on.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

The hose itself may be weak in the walls and there might be an obstruction "upstream" of the hose. I wouldn't let it go, it looks like something to start checking on.
 
As I suggested in an IBMWR posting to Reid..

The radiator cap is kaput. The fluid-return valve in it is plugged (not at all uncommon). While they can be cleaned - sometimes successfully, I've suggested replacement. New cap comes with all new seals and overpressure valve and return valve.

The hose in the photo is probably just fine - these ones seem to last for eternity on BMWs..

Don was spot on with this one. The cap was clogged with a beige colored, gooey paste. The Clymer repair manual refers to it as; "green goo".

I've flushed the system, and a new cap is on order. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

Be careful what you (or your service tech) put in your cooling system.
