'93 K75s/ABS - Shifts from 2nd to 3rd, or 2nd to false(?) neutral under acceleration

Greetings!

This issue started some months ago, but really stood out on a recent weekend trip with the club: My bike frequently shifts on its own from 2nd to a false neutral (no green Neutral light), or will jump straight from 2nd to 3rd (with the gear number changing in the LCD window) under acceleration. I can sometimes manage to avoid this by upshifting early; not sure what the RPM range is when I'm doing this. There have been several occasions while the abrupt auto-shift from 2nd to 3rd occurs while accelerating from an on-ramp onto a freeway, whether straight-line or clover-leaf. This last is when it worries me most: I'm afraid the bike might slide out form under me at some point on one of those curves.

Note 1: The transmission and gear oil have not been drained and replaced since I bought it. I have not even checked the trans gear oil level, yet. (I do have replacement oil on-hand and the washers for the drain and fill plugs.)

Note 2: The clutch was replaced last year at my local dealer, as well as the rear main seal, since there was a leak that contaminated the plates and caused considerable slippage in just about all gears.

Note 3: It sometimes feels like there is a "two-stage notch" effect when I upshift from 2nd -> 3rd -> 4th, i.e. when I shift up, the toe shifter will engage, but then I can nudge the shifter "deeper" into the notch.

Does this sound like a clutch issue, a transmission/gear issue, or something else?

Thanks in advance for your feedback! :)

Either it has a bent shift fork or it has worn 2nd gear "dogs", or by now, most likely both. In either event it will only get worse and won't get better. The transmission will need to come apart and get some new parts put in by a qualified person, or as an alternative you could look for a good used transmission.

Paul:

Thank you for the feedback. I am shopping for transmissions online now. :) Glad I already have money set aside to afford this.
