2009 R1200RT low seat help

Need some help please. Just picked up a 2009 R1200RT with low suspension and the one-piece low seat that I believe came with that low suspension as standard. The seat is not workable for me (I am an "abundant" individual - height approximately = width). A set of Suburban foot peg lowers have aided with leg room for sure, and getting my feet flat on the ground is a treat after the last couple regular height RT's, but I need help sorting out what is available for low saddle options. Spoke to Russell, their seats add height to the tune of 1.5" or more. Has anyone had a good experience with a comfortable long distance saddle that approximates the height of the low BMW one-piece? Any help much appreciated.

I used a Corbin low seat for the six years I owned my '09 RT. Liked it. On my '04 RT I used a Sargent low seat. Liked that too. :)

Low Seat Help

I use a Sargent Low on my RT. I love it. I am 5'8 with a 29inch inseam weighing in around 220. It is still a little high but I manage pretty good.

The seat is really comfortable. About the do a 3k 7 day ride. I will try to let you know how the seat held up.

Last Saturday I got lucky and just rode up to Hollister CA to the Corbin factory. They do a ride in service where they will build a seat while you wait but normally you need to reserve in advance. They had room to do mine. I had a Russel seat on my 2013 Low version but it still sat a little high for me. The Corbin seat got me flat footed at the stop lights and I got the back rest too. I was happy with the service. They took time to have me test ride a few versions and give them feedback and after each ride they would add or reshape the foam and have me ride again. They also offer to fix again later if I am not happy with the result after putting some miles on it.

I rode with a low Sargent seat on my RT for almost seven years. I recently sent it back to Sargent to remake it into a standard height seat. Feels much more comfortable now as I realized that I would spend more time sitting than standing at a stop light. The extra height stretches my legs out a little more and it is better for my knees.

Russell Seat

I had the same problem. I got the Russell Day Long anyway and I did find that I was on my tip-toes at stops. I took
my BMW all around boots to the cobbler and had him add 3/4 of an inch to the soles of my boots. Problem solved.
The Day Long was the best motorcycle accessory I've ever purchased. The other thing that happens over time is that
the Russell seat will "settle", meaning it will start to go down a bit. I've have mine for over three years now and I don't
even think about the height anymore. Good luck with your choice.

The Corbin Ride in service is great, I wanted a more narrow seat but at the standard seat height, so I had Corbin take a low seat and make it the standard seat height. If you can do the ride in service you get exactly what you want.

Feedback appreciated!

Thanks folks for all the feedback, much appreciated. The ride-in services sound great but I'm in Michigan and faced with limited time off, frankly not certain that I would survive to the west coast on the BMW one-piece low saddle. I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger on taking my chances on just ordering, but perhaps from someone willing to "tune" it after the fact.

Low Seat Help?

I have a 2013 90 with the "torture" seat. I replaced it with the one piece Comfort Seat from BMW. I had an upholstery shop add a half inch of comfort foam and it suits me perfectly. I believe it adds an inch or so but I can easily handle more height.

After the first 600 miles on day one the seat became flat and really made me sweat. I wish it had more airflow. I do not know if I would recommend it or not. I am thinking about adding this https://www.beadrider.com/ to see if it helps any.

I hope that helps.
