2005 R12GS - Front Shock Torque?

I just installed a new pair of YSS shocks and have the factory torque settings for each mounting point. My question is, the front shock's upper mounting point calls for 43 nm setting but, due to the upper / lower rubber bushing on the upper mounting threaded rod, it appears I am torqueing it down too tight even though I haven't reached the 43 nm "click" yet. My torque wrench is correct in calibration so...should I just keep torqueing until I hear the magic click at 43nm? The length of the threaded rod still visible above the nut is currently a tick longer than where the OEM shock appeared to be....if that makes any sense! Thanks in advance for any input!
