2005 R1200RT Intermittent Cruise Control Switch

First let me say thanks ahead of time for any advice/information that you can provide relating to the issue that I am having. As the title states, I own a 2005 R1200RT that is in every aspect an awesome bike. This is my second RT...my first one was a '98 R1100RT that had over 100K miles on it when I finally parted ways with it. My '05 RT came equipped with a much appreciated cruise control system. Over the last month, I have developed what seems to be a mechanical problem with the On/Off switch. The issue began after I rode through a fairly heavy thunderstorm here in NC. I'm guessing that water has gotten into the switch and now, the slightest vibration causes the red LED "On" indicator to flicker and go out, which in turn causes the "SET" indicator on the dash to go out...end result being inconsistent cruise control function. Cycling the switch cleared the problem up the first couple of times, but it has gotten progressively worse.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions for repair?

I had problems with the cruise on my '05 R1200RT disengaging, that was associated with going over bumps or a rough surface.

Turned out, the rear brake had a mechanical plunger/switch that, of course, cancels the cruise if you apply any brake pressure. It is adjustable by a tech and adjusting its sensitivity cleared up my problem.

Might help.

Good luck. :thumb

I also have a 2005 R1200RT and had a similar issue. I was in a heavy down pour for hours and my left switch cluster went out. I got an intermittent left turn signal. The solution was a new switch cluster for the left handlebar. I liked the new plastic so ,I have I replaced the right side and the switches on my other bike... astetics... What can I say. But yeah, it's your switches. It'll cost about $350 to replace at dealer.
