1985 k100 rear wheel alignment issues

i have been putting a different transmission in my 85 and when i got it just about done i noticed my rear wheel looks like its cocked , i tore back into it thinking maybe i had the swingarm not quite right but that didnt seem to help.

I guess my question is am i missing something or was there something that i needed to do that i didnt do upon reassembly?

Im kinda stumped because i have had it apart twice trying to figure it out.

Greg - need a better description then "cocked". You can check the tracking alignment with a long straight-edge along the sides of the tire/rim - see it it stays parallel to the bike all the way to up front.

Since it's pretty much a fixed system - not a lot of places this sort of error can creep in unless the monolever swingarm is bent, or the mounting points for the swingarm are offset somehow in the new (used?) transmission..

Don the best way i can describe it is looking from the rear the top of the tire is farther right then the bottom, tilted is probably a better term. I didnt think that there could be many reasons for this , thought i missed something. It is a used tranny, could i switch the case or bell housing out from the original? thanks greg
 
If the tranny you purchased was for the same model and year, it would make sense that you could swap out the internals and put them in your original housing - what I assume you mean by case. This assumes your case was good but you felt you had issues with the internals and were replacing the unit to solve those issues. All this assumes the 'tilt' is not an optical illusion or that the frame of reference is not tilted, etc. Hard to imagine the mounting points for the swingarm could be misaligned without other significant issues - let along not being easily seen...like Don said, not much room for error here.
 
To move the guts from one case to another requires measuring for the proper end play on each of the shafts (it will be different) and calculating the proper shims.

Hard to imagine a accident that is so violent that it would bend (without cracking ) the tranny case, but anything is possible.

I suggest you do some precise measuring to determine the exact source of the perceived tilt BEFORE tearing apart the trans.
