1985 K100 Odometer/Clock not working

Hi all,.
First time poster here. I am refurbishing an well-used 85 K100RT. The speedometer works ok, bit the odometer and clock do not. Odometer stopped at about 84K. I acquired the bike at an estate sale last year, but have no history on the bike so don't know the real mileage. Are there any common issues/fixes with these I should know about? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome!

Sounds like you've already experienced a common early K bike problem :p
Driveshaft and clutch splines are a biggie, plus as the bike ages, some of the rubber and electrical parts may need some small work/cleaning.

In terms of information, the K-tech library subforum plus the IBMWR archive will get you started. If you run across anything else weird, we have a lot of great experts that regularly visit here that will lead you in the right direction.

Last January, my local BMW dealer sent my 1987 K100 LT speedo to Palo Alto Speedometer in Palo Alto, CA. They have a website. They fixed the speedo and odometer for a reasonable price. Word to the wise: if you send yours to them, use Fed Ex or some other private carrier. My dealer sent mine by USPS, which couldn't find the shop (same location for decades) and returned it as undeliverable. The repairs may take a while, as mine did, if old-stock parts are needed.
