I am currently trying to find paint code for my bike here is a picture of a bike with the same color . There was not paint code on fender, any help with color name ,paint code , where to buy it would be appreciated

I have come up with two different codes one says 506 and the glasurit site says it is Avus 086. I think the correct code is 506 classic black metallic with 104 gold pinstripes. what do you think .

Andy Schwietzer's book "Boxer from /5 - Volume 1 All Airheads with twin shocks" lists the 1981 R100CS paint choices as classicschwarzmetallic (506) and lavarotmetallic (553). Avus 086 was certainly used as frame paint as well as paint for some early to mid 1970s bikes.

BMW paint codes of course don't mean much to your local painter in the USA ... unless maybe if its a BMW specialist such as Holt Designs.

My recent experience with matching paint or trying to find the correct paint for my 84 R80RT showed most of the paint shops don't have BMW motorcycle paint codes in their records for anything older than the year 2000. So I was not able to match exactly the color for my bike at my paint guy's supplier of choice.

In my case, it is no big deal, I am not repainting or rebuilding a bike to be a show bike, I just wanted something close.

Holt or perhaps any shop selling Glaurit products will have the correct paint but in my case, I am not willing to pay the high price for the exact paint used by BMW. My first paint job, the original, only lasted 5 years before the bike looked like someone shot it with a shotgun, the original paint chipped so badly. The second paint job was a close match Chevy truck blue and has lasted 20+ years before fading and chipping. This is now my third paint job and will be the last in my lifetime.

Oh yes, the number on the rear fender was not the paint color code but was in fact the "paint/pinstripe" code. Unless that code is broken, you won't find the proper paint code. I see links have been already listed to help with this. St.

I just inquired at the paint shop where I purchased paint for my last winter overhaul of my R80RT. I was surprised they do have some BMW paint codes for bikes older than 2000. By the way, Glasurit is now either owned by PPG or some other company so you might be able to get a non Glasurit paint to match saving some money. Holt is NOT the only person who can paint BMW color.

I will admit, there are not many painters out there for motorcycles as there are for cars. My guy does custom Harley work and after doing my RT told me next time he would know to charge more for the job. Too many fiddly bits, angles, and such on a BMW RT, RT fairing makes for a lot of hand work versus on a Harley or car where most surfaces are flat or semi flat so power tools can be used to sand and prep.

Several Paint shops in my area used to do motorcycles but no longer will due to the manpower involved for the cost returned. If you find a decent guy, treat him or her well. Also, a good paint shop will electronically match paint and mix paint if need be.

All of the new paints are not the same as what was sprayed on the airheads due to environmental issues. So there may be very slight differences between an original paint job and a repaint despite the skill of the paint shop. St.

Understand that the paint code on the fender and in the general description ALWAYS covers all body paint ... the "scheme" if you will. Therefore 506 covers the black main paint PLUS the gold pinstripes and there is no actual paint with code 506.

As you can see at the attachment, the code for classic black paint is 162
