1978 R100RS Final Drive Vent

Hi,
Here’s another R100RS final drive question. Does the ventilator always screw in or do some press in. Mine is pretty rusty but the hex to remove it is lacking and a round cylinder pressed into the housings seems to have taken its place.

Should be #5 in this diagram:

The pre 1981 models vent just pulls out. You'll need to heat the housing and grab with a pair of vise grips or channel locks. Probably the old one will be destroyed coming out. Clean up the hole and apply a little bit of grease inside the hole. Reheat and lightly tap the new one in with a rubber hammer. Before taking the old one out, make note of how it was positioned...put the new one in about the same location.
