100 milers in Utah—mph, that is

Done. :evil

First post: "Never had a ticket. All the dudes in my family are cops." I hope that's not an indicator of how well it'll go. :ha

I read that post. I admit that Adam's whole family might be law enforcement officers. But I doubt he never speeds. Not in the part of the country where he lives. I know people who don't speed where the two-lane limit is 75 (like past our house) and the Interstate limit is 80, but doubt it when the speed limits are 45 and 55 mostly.

Town speed limits in Mass. are like 35, so good luck riding in Mass. and not speeding. :ha

Something should be said about how my big ole ugly GS feels so happy, smooth and planted at speeds above 100 it feels like a crime to deny her that pleasure. I suppose I should switch to bikes not designed in a country with an autobahn or the Nuremberg ring…….Nahhh.

I have it on good authority that an 05 RT will go 129mph via GPS with camping gear on the back.

Re MA:

Some years ago, I was in the four-wheeler, on Route 2 between Greenfield and North Adams. It's a great motorcycle road, but I was in the four-wheeler.

The speed limit for some stretches varies between 30 and 45 MPH. I was doing the speed limit or a hair less.

A car tailgated and harassed me for a bunch of miles, where there is no passing zone or convenient pullout. Eventually, he turned off onto a side road.

In North Adams, I got pulled over, and ordered to take a sobriety test. During the day. With no alcohol in my system.

I passed readily.

The trooper looked really confused when I passed.

I asked her why she was confused.

She had a report from an off-duty trooper that I was driving erratically all over the road.

I told her and her fellow trooper that I drove the speed limit, that I had had a tailgater harassing me, and that she received a false report from that tailgating fellow trooper. I told her that she had behaved professionally, but that he had just made her look bad and had put her in a perilous legal situation.

I asked her what she planned to do about it.

Of course, she didn't answer directly. She did behave professionally, within the context of having been set up by her coworker.

I considered reporting the guy, but I didn't know anyone in the department, I didn't know who the malefactor was, and I wasn't issued a ticket (or worse), so I figured my complaint wouldn't go very far.
