THE 2021 Montana MOA Re-Schedule (previous 2020 Great Falls Thread)

One day...

I desire to ride, simply day by day, no specific itinerary... for about 15 days before needing to be at a specific location/rally.
With no daily mileage concerns whatsoever.

Someday...

I've just requested a refund on our rally registration through the link on the rally page. It's not looking like we'll be completely vaccinated before then, and the border may not be open anyway. If it is, who knows what hoops we'll have to jump through to get out of country health coverage. :dunno

Looking forward to the announcement for 2022!

... Places to ride and stuff to see like this, would even wear out a retiree!

Don't believe everything you read. Montana is a barren, desolate, bleak, dreary, grim, depressing and inhospitable place. I've long told people to avoid it like the plague; little did I know.

On a brighter note.... Today I saw the ultimate indication that the pandemic is on the downhill side of the curve. COSTCO is once again offering samples. They were prepackaged individual servings, but hey, it's progress..... maybe. Of course, probably 20-30% of the weight people lost was attributable to COSTCO discontinuing offering free samples.

What weight loss? :brow

No kidding ! I had heard a report that on average folks have gained 1.5 pounds a month over the past year. But then I don't shop at COSTCO .... maybe I should start :dunno

I shop Costco and still gained weight over the winter even without their food samples. :banghead

Going-to-the-Sun Road Ticketed Entry

Glacier National Park is instituting an online reservation system (ticketed entry) for the Going-to-the-Sun Road corridor between the park’s West and St. Mary Entrances from May 28 to September 6, 2021.

Online Reservation System (Ticketed Entry)

Day-use visitors who arrive by private vehicle or motorcycle must have a day-use entry reservation ticket. Day-use entry reservations are valid for seven consecutive days and must be validated on the first day your reservation is scheduled to begin. Visitors arriving on foot or bicycle do not require a day-use reservation ticket.

Day-use reservations are included with any overnight lodging and service reservations along the Going-to-the-Sun Road corridor between the West and St. Mary Entrance Stations.

This includes visitors with overnight accommodations, including Lake McDonald Lodge, Rising Sun Motor Inn, Fish Creek Campground, or in-park private lodging, and visitors with reservations for wilderness camping, boat rides, guided hikes, horseback rides, or bus tours offered between the West and St. Mary Entrances of the park.
An entry reservation ticket for the day is included in your service reservation. The included entry reservation ticket applies only to the dates of your service reservation.
Proof of a service reservation (e.g., lodging, tours, etc.) is required and will serve as your entry reservation ticket.

Dumb question but assume you can travel either west to east OR east to west with the reservation ticket?

Or up to the Logan Pass Visitor Center and then return the way you came from. I do not know, but I think all three of those options will be available.

Dates and Locations Requiring Entry Reservation Tickets
Day-use visitors who arrive by private vehicle or motorcycle must have an online day-use entry reservation ticket and a current park pass when entering the park through the West and St. Mary Entrances between 6 am and 5 pm from May 28 to September 6, 2021. Please be prepared to show your reservation confirmation and photo ID at park entrance stations upon arrival.

Day-use entry reservation tickets are limited. Approximately 2/3 of the entry reservation tickets will be available up to 60 days in advance with the remaining 1/3 of entry reservation tickets being released two days in advance. Prior to the full opening of the Going-to-the-Sun Road there will be fewer tickets available each day.

Entry reservation tickets can be secured at www.recreation.gov beginning at 6 am MST on April 29, 2021.

Visitors entering the park at Many Glacier, Two Medicine, Polebridge, or along Highway 2 do not need an online entry reservation ticket. Access to these areas may be temporarily limited during times of peak visitation.

So those of us who are early risers can squeak past the entrances at 5:30am to greet the sunrise..?

Pete

I suspect that the gate will be "closed" except for the hours 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Wonder what the gate-keepers will think, when Monday morning after the rally... there's BMW's everywhere lining up for entry,
ALL with the required Day Use Entry Reservation Ticket!

We could make that happen on April 29th as Seasonal Reservations are first accepted.
All it would take is communication and the dedicated effort.
And that could be the follow-up wave of riders that will likely arrive Sunday.
