It was 1975, I was 19 yrs old and driving to California from New Jersey for college. I stop in Rapid City, S. Dakota to see Sue a friend who had moved there a year earlier. Sue's boyfriend Phil had a house vs Sue's one bedroom apartment, so he allow me to stay in the guest room. The next morning I found Phil in the the garage working on a wood project. I didn't know that Phil rides, but sitting in the garage was a 900/6. We talk shop for a few minutes and then Phil made an offer I couldn't refuse. How would I like to take the bike out for the day? Wow, only knew this guy less than 24 hours and now I riding his bike, a beemer no less. Rode all the Black Hills with a stop at Mount Rushmore. It's one of my best motorcycle experiences I've to date with more to come.

Took a few years but now I'm a rocking with 2016 R1200RS.

Thanks Phil.

Thanks Phil.

You honored that first BMW ride by buying the Lupin & White RS??

I remember a similar experience and more recently I have found that all of the Moto people who come to my door are good people which is a lot of why I am turning my pace into a B&B for touring motorcycles. We'll be open this spring.

Thanks for the story.
Reading between the lines I think Phil was keeping you away from Sue :)
Welcome to the forum from another 2016 R1200RS owner.
I was also 19 the summer of 75 :)

Thanks guys. In the long version you would see that Phil had no worries. And yes, Phil rocks and I was hoping he was here.
