Bing Carb Leak

Still figuring out things with my 72' R75/5. Today I was visiting a friend and parked the bike on a very slight uphill grade (its Florida so everything is pretty much flat). I neglected to turn the gas off and noticed the right cab was leaking out fuel. It was from the small exit hole on the bottom of the float bowl or overflow tube. I shut off the peacock and rolled the bike down to the street where it is level. Rode home and no more leaking. Left the peacock on for a few minutes after parking in garage and still no leak.

I assume the uneven surface raised the floats and caused the gas leak but it is odd since it was only on the one side. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

I think you're OK. The extra lean might have caused the float to rub against the towers holding them in. Just keep an eye on things and deal with it later if it persists. You could also try and recreate the situation just as a check.

And, the lesson seems to be to always turn the petcocks off! :thumb

I would check the fuel level in the bowls. Turn on petcock for a minute or so. Turn off petcock. Carefully so as to not splash remove the float bowls.

How close to the top tip of the overflow tube is the fuel level?

There is a little debris in the bottom of the right bowl. The level looked ok and I have been using fuel filters but recently replaced the fuel lines. I will check the bowls again after my next ride. I appreciate the input guys.

Those might be small rubber bits from the inside of a failing fuel line, so you might consider refreshing your fuel lines if they are old.

Best,
DG
