Gasket Advice Needed

Finally have the 72’ R75/5 up and running but noticed a couple leaks on the right cylinder. The bike has been sitting in the garage a few weeks now and a small engine oil puddle is forming. It looks like the prior owner tried to patch the leak in the middle of the cylinder and the base. I planned to inspect the engine this weekend and will definitely need to replace the old gaskets. Is there a better option for gaskets for these old airheads than the factory ones? Also, do you use Yamabond or anything like that for the installation?

Having scraped off Yamabond and Hylomar off or old cylinder bases I highly recommend you use a newer product. I've used Permatex Ultra Gray on two top end rebuilds and removed one set that was sealed with Permatex Ultra Gray. It cleans up a lot easier and seals as well or better than the older sealants.

This is definitely one area where new tech is worth considering. Or like the old Dow Corning ad used to say
"Better living through chemistry!"

Apparently you enjoyed their products more than you recall. Dow Corning makes glass products. Dow Chemicals made the good stuff !

To clarify, neither Dow Chemical nor Dow-Corning originated the phrase, "Better Living Through Chemistry. That was a trademarked slogan of Dupont starting in 1935.
