2016 r1200rt. a few issues

Thanks for the advice. I will try to have an intelligent conversation with the service tech at Pensacola, get it done while it’s under warranty.

Whoa there, pilgrim, depending on how much Reese trusts his local dealer, check the easy stuff first!

Draining battery could also be the muffler bearings or maybe even a bad timing chain! To be on the safe side I'd recommend a complete overhaul of the engine and a fresh coat of paint.
:bottle

:rofl

Just kidding of course. Yeah. Definitely try the easy stuff first.

Its definitely the Spark Nuts. Add a can of compression to diagnose.

I always find it unnerving that car fans continue to run after the engine is shut off. Probably because on the last car I owned, the fan was driven by a fan belt off the crankshaft and not an electric motor. It also disconcerts me when the headlights stay on after the ignition is shut off. With rental cars, I always have to stand there and wait to make sure they go off. I guess that makes me a geezer.

Some vehicles have electric water pumps, like some Audi's, and will run the pump and fan for a couple of minutes after shutdown depending on temperature.

With fan running after shut down battery life is going to be shorten another reason to keep a closer eye on it...

The coolant would circulate slowly due to convection (density differences), but without actual measurements of flow and cooling rates it would be hard to know whether that would make it worth running the fan. I would bet that the BMW engineers have considered this issue and rendered their professional opinion. :)

Ken

Of course.

And to expect a BMW to behave like some other brand is silly.

Recall that these are the world's Police bikes, designed to safely idle for hours if required to, for example, power radios and lights at an accident scene. Silly to expect them to have heating problems.
