Can anyone out there offer some advice on Traveling in Ottawa?

Thinking about attending MOA event in Jay Vermont, and doing a couple days in Ottawa.

Would like to stay near downtown, but CHEAP...........
Or is there good public transportation to get downtown easily?

tks,

I found a reasonably priced ($79.10 CAD in 2015, telephone 613-828-2748) place near downtown Ottawa last time through. The Stardust Motel is at 2965 Carling Avenue and has a Tim Hortons across the street and some small shops within walking distance. Not real fancy but everything in my unit was clean and it was 5 minutes by bike off major routes. YMMV

CHEAP, you say? When I am not with my wife, I stay in the Ottawa Jail. Forget the actual rate, but as I remember the last time it was about $72 for two nights, which included $7 for parking the bike one night (didn't have it with me the first night). The Ottawa jail was built about 1860 and conditions remained the same until it was decommissioned about a hundred years later. It was sold to the Canadian Hostel Association in the early '70's for $1.00. Checkout http://www.hihostels.ca/Ontario/1166/hi-ottawa-jail.hostel

The Jail is located right downtown. I was able to walk everywhere, the Parliament Buildings, the Market, Museums etc. As well, Ottawa does have an excellent bus system, with what must be an old rail line dedicated to the buses that travel at 50 mph.

There is also another hostel downtown, which might be a bit cheaper.

:bow Paul I thought at $79 was doing good... however I usually don't pay to get IN to jail... just sayin'
