NEW Windshield '02 K1200RS

Out There Somewhere
Hi guys, some time back I was asking about windshields. Didn't get a lot of response, but after some internet research, I chose a ZTechnik, the Z2213 model. It's their largest "touring" windshield for the K12RS.

Easy to install using factory hardware and mounts. Only took it for a few miles test ride the other day. Although it is very similar in size to my BMW "comfort" windshield, its shape varies somewhat and makes for a nice ride behind it. Initial impression was positive, and I'll post a full review of the thing in Gear after this weekend, as we are headed out for the Roadrunner Magazine Touring Weekend over in Western PA's Laurel Highlands, so should end up with quite a few miles on.

Good choice. I have the shorter Z-Technik dark-tint windshields on my 2003 and 1998 K1200RSs. I'm planning to get the larger one for at least one of my bikes for colder weather riding. I'll be interested to know how you like it after a few more miles.

The new windshield works really well.

We put just under 700 miles on this weekend with it. At my height (5'-8"), it's a little noisy (in the low position) when there's a strong cross wind, but still far better than the larger-than-stock BMW "comfort" windshield on any day. Just because I hadn't put the windshield into its upper position all weekend, this afternoon I did so. Pretty much dead quiet behind it, then again, less wind by far. Tho it was "cooler" today -at only 89 degrees (F)- it was still hot with the screen in its upper position.

All in all, so far, I am quite happy with the purchase. I'd bet that on a full day of riding many many miles, interstate etc.... it'd be a real treat to have on the bike.

I have the smoke Aeroflow windshield on my 98K1200RS. I had the Parabellum which gave better gas mileage but was so heavy it would not stay up if I hit a bump. The Aeroflow gives way better wind protection and is quiet in either position at all speeds. Unfortunately they no longer have the mounting hardware available from them. I happen to have an extra set of hardware if interested.
