Hello,
I know that seats are like oil... But I wanted to give a quick report after riding my new Corbin seat for about 500 miles over the last week.
First, people say Corbin seats are heavy. I weighed mine at 7.19 lbs. For reference, the Russel Day Long that came off weighs 5.52 lbs. Heavier, sure! But I didn't weigh the engine bars, or highway pegs, or Clearwater lights. And please, don't weigh the rider! I'm not sure that 1.67 lbs means much on a sport-tourer, but that is up to you to decide.
I did the ride-in service. I showed up at the Hollister factory at 0900 and left at about 1:30 PM with my new seat. In the end, I didn't gain much by doing the ride-in, since I was very pleased with the initial test ride, and they didn't do any additional customizing of the foam. I did get to pick my cover, and there are many options.
I have to say that the seat isn't nearly as firm as I'd expected, and was quite comfortable from the beginning. The seat is very supportive, and the fibertech seat pan is noticeably stiffer than the factory pan. I could feel the old seat pan flex over bumps, and this one doesn't! I like the firmness and support this seat provides.
The Corbin definitely feels different than the RDL, but I am quite pleased with it, and will likely sell the Day Long. More to follow after it gets broken in over the next month or two. Mr. Corbin said that it would take about 2-3,000 miles to break in completely. Guess I have to go ride!
I don't mean to add any fuel to the 'what oil, er... tire, errrr, seat is best' threads, but I wanted to share my experiences. Seats are expensive! And I've spent a pile of money on different ones. I hope you don 't have to.
