Rear Shock/Spring Kaput

Need some advice. I want to replace the rear shock on my non-ESA 2008 K1200S with a stock take-off unit [used w 500 miles]. Even though I will probably win a new bike in the MOA sweepstakes.

My service manual CD lists the same steps for both ESA and non-ESA. I was hoping for a simpler procedure that doesn?t require removing the rear frame and oil tank. Any tips?
