Are there any known reasons for not using their oil and grease?(other than cost) I have been using it in other m/cs and vehicles and am very pleased with it.
I am a newby here and to BMWs so please forgive anything that has been answered here before. I am not quite computer literate.
Thanks, Jim

I use Amsoil 20w-50 in my 91 K100RS during the summer. Synthetic oil, such as Amsoil, with stands heat better than regular motor oil. BMW sells their own synthetic but it is more expensive than Amsoil. There is no reason to no use it other than the cost. I use regular BMW 20w-50 during the winter to save a few dollars.

The engine is basically a car engine laid on its side so there is no problem at all since there is no clutch or transmission involved.
