Disable Anti-theft alarm system?

Is there a way to disable the Anti-theft alarm system for a 2005 K1200LT?

I just purchased a used 2005 K1200 LT and would like to disable or shut off the alarm system so I don't have to carry the alarm fob with me. I can see there are ways to program the system for different types of alerts and reminders. I would just like to eliminate the system and not have to be concerned about the technology leaving me with no start.

I would like to just insert the key and ride.

The alarm sytem on an LT is so integral to the harness that just thinking about removing it gives me headache. It can be programmed so that it is "dormant" (my word, not BMW's). If the instructions are not in the owner's manual, ask your dealer for a copy of the instructions. Anytime the battery is disconnected the alarm goes back to factory defaullt, so avoid doing so. I don't own an LT, but I would not leave town without an alarm fob.

Sage advice to follow! The programming instructions are simple enough (sorry, I don't have a copy any more) to follow - I've done a few of them. Don't even try to perform an alarm-ectomy. Its not worth it. ;)

YMMV...

Not sure about 05 and newer but the 04 and older could be by-passed permanently with just a couple of jumper wires on a connector under the seat.

Carry the fob and make sure the battery is not dead in the fob also.
