Flat spot in roll-on acceleration?

This almost wasn't enough of a problem to bring in here, but anyway...

2004 R1150RT, 45k, full 24k service included throttle body balance, etc. Everything is nice nice nice, except when I roll on the throttle in 5th or top gear, I could swear there's a sort of flat spot, or at least that's what we used to call it when it happened with carburetors. It's not a stall or a miss. It feels like you're being slowed by a gust of wind, in fact that's what I thought it was at first, but it's not.

When I rode a friend's 1200GS recently I was amazed at how much roll-on power it had and how steady the acceleration was. Made me wonder whether something might be a little off with mine.

Any opinions? Obviously the dealer who did the 24k service tuned it as well as they know how.

Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

Probably going lean just as you roll on and increase the air flow. I'd suspect a slightly clogged fuel injector or a problem with the TPS adjustment.

Thanks, Paul. Meanwhile I discovered several other threads on this topic, which seems to be not uncommon for the '04 1150RT. Soon as I get home from Thanksgiving with the folks, :eat I'll get to tinkering.

flat spot

I had the same problem with my R1100RS until I had the TPS adjusted by their techs. (This is NOT a job for backyard mechanics).

Best,

Will

From the FWIW department: If a TPS adjustment doesn't do the trick, maybe consider the coils. Have you had them replaced since new? On my 04 1150RS, I noticed a hesitation like you described when the bike had about 52,000 miles on it. Mine sometimes idled a litte erratic, but I mostly noticed that when I would get on the gas around 60mph or so, like to pas a vehicle, it would hesitate or "hold back". I also noted that the bike didn't readily go into triple digit land on those rare occasions that I would venture there. It seemed to hold back then too. Unfortunately, my dealer had told me that their troubleshooting method was to merely swap parts, so I plunked down the $$$ and bought both coils since I had so many miles on the originals. Immediately fixed the problem. Worth looking into if the TPS option doesn't pan out.

My 04 RT with 40k just started doing the same thing. Now I know what to have the dealer check. Thanks

04 R1150RT 30K Huge flat spot....

Hi, It started as a cold only problem about 3 months ago, click 1st, accelerate and if would fall flat on its face and sometimes die!Warm it was ok, now in addition, it feels like the rev limiter comes on if I ab below 3K and go WOT, it hits about 3200K and just goes Bap, Bap, Bap I can however lacerate slowly and get past 3500K and if I do that it runs great....:( Not all the time, its perfect sometimes!!! Thanks...

Welcome to the forum! You've tapped into a pretty old thread...hopefully others with this model will visit and provide some thoughts.

So, the bike is new to you...how many miles have you put on the bike before this started to happen? Any maintenance actions that took place prior to this beginning to happen? There were some suggestions above for a similar problem in the past...at least the going flat part.
