Since I got the 2018 R1200 GS, I haven't ridden the 1988 R100 RT. So, I decided to take the RT out for a spin. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It took me a while to get used to the huge leap in horsepower to the GS, and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I hopped on the RT with about half the horsepower. At first, the RT felt very sluggish—not that anything was wrong. It just wasn’t the GS. After about 10 min, I got used to the power difference. One thing I found interesting is that the RT felt lighter and more nimble. It was easier in the turns than the GS. My thought is that the RT has a lower center of gravity, slightly shorter wheel base and is slightly lighter in weight—this is just stab in the dark though. Of course, it’s also possible that I’ve got a lot more experience on the RT than the GS. Or perhaps, it’s just all in my head. At the end of the day, I had loads of fun, and that’s what counts.
