Can locks be removed from cases if you do not have the key? I bought a couple of bags with no key and want to remove them to put in some locks that are keyed the same as the ignition? I know how to remove the locks when you have the key, but not when you don't.

As long as they are unlocked, you can remove the cylinders. Use a hooked pick in the key slot to pull on the cylinder as you use a second pick to depress the retaining tab.

You don't need to swap cylinders, just put the key that you want them keyed to in the cylinder and sand down any protruding lock tabs that stick out past the barrel EXCEPT the end one opposite the key. That one MUST remain uncut as that is the one that holds the cylinder in the lock.

This method of rekeying the locks is the official BMW method for these cylinders since the late '80s. Prior to that, they offered different tabs that you would swap out. Somewhere I still have the official BMW service bulletin.
