GPS Power source

I am buying a Garmin or TomTom GPS for my 2018 RT. I have a RAM ball mounted on top of the dash for the mount. Is is possible to tap into the wiring for the factory GPS to power the after market unit to get a switched circuit? I was thinking there or running the wire to the Powerlet plug on the right side under the tupperware. My concern is how this might effect the CanBus system.

Garmin GPS' require +5v DC. If any device added to the CanBus draws more than 5A, it will be shut down. Some, if not all the Garmin GPS' for motorcycles come with a 12v to 5v converter. I doubt that the GPS draws more than 5A from the 12v, so taping into the Powerlet line should work without a problem.

Thanks for the advice!
