Windshield 2000 R1100RS Recommendations

Can anyone recommend a windshield that provides more wind protection for the R1100RS? I'm 6'4" and the wind hits me right in the helmet at its highest setting. At this point I just ride with the screen all the way down. I saw the recent post about an 1150 windscreen being usedd to p for the 1100 and wondered if this was a good fix or if anyone had other recommendations. This must fall in the, "You know you're getting old if... you want a bigger wind shield to protect you from the nasty wind..."

I changed my stock shield to a Wudo, about 80,000 miles ago and am still happy with it. It added about three inches to the sides and top and has a smooth profile. Not sure about availability but it was a good choice at the time.

I have a '94 R1100RS. I'm the 2nd owner, now over 20 years of ownership. Came with the stock oem windshield. I liked the sport style riding, even over long distance's. I'm 6'2". Ran the oem spring loaded shield full back to all the way full forward. Generally run full Stitch, full face modular helmet, atgatt, except the the hottest part of the Summer.
Thought I needed the largest, longest shield. Ran it for a short time. Full back and full forward. It flexed wildly on the spring loaded wind shield mount. Thought about locking in the spring loaded mount to one position. But studying the situation, It really dawned on me the hold front of the fairing face of the bike flexed back and forth by the force of the wind and it totally upset the geometry of the bike as it moved down the highway.
Gave it some more thought. I'm a slow methodical thinker, not to fast on my feet. I was use to standard bikes with handle bar mounted medium to long shields. This bike worked best for me with the small oem shield full back. Atgatt, oem GS grip shields, ride it like a sport touring motorcycle. It worked, as I now understood my bike. :thumb
 
I have a Parabellum 23" windshield for my R1100RSL and have problems with stress cracks developing around the lower fastener holes. This is the second windshield that has done this the first being a Cee Bailey. It looks like the windshield curvature is too sharp to match the mounting bracket and the bracket screw holes don't seem to line up well with the windshield screw holes. I bought a small 17" shield made by Power Bronze which seems to work pretty good at least no sign of stress cracking, yet. Problem is where I live riding into strong north winds in summer with 30+ mph gusts while riding at 60 mph at 60 degrees can wear you out quick. Wish the windshield mounting bracket was larger to help accommodate a taller windshield and I can't believe I'm the only RS owner that has had this problem so I'm open to suggestions. Oh, moving isn't an option.:)

In Canada the R1150RS came with the smaller R1100RS shield. I had to order the above part when I installed a 21 inch shield from Cee Bailly. The larger shield wobbles quite a bit from the wind. Over many many miles, I have had the mounting bracket break where the adjustment rod mounts. This happened twice. After the last one broke I made a support out of rubber like foam which I placed between the shield and the instrument cluster. The shield is now steady with the pressure off the adjuster and now on the cluster. Not so pretty but effective.

Thanx for the link but $434?? Looks like another gold plated part from BMW, Grrrr.... I've given this some more thought and I think the windshield mount on the 1100RS was just never designed to support a tall windshield and I've decided to give up on the idea. This 17" Power Bronze ($119) with a pretty good reverse curve at the top works really pretty good and with a good set of earplugs results in a quiet enough ride so i'm done trying to re-invent the proverbial wheel it just is what it is. I think the tall windshields especially like the Parabellum use a polycarbonate that is too thick making it not flexible and thus prone to developing stress cracks. I assume the plastic is polycarbonate but not sure. If I want a quiet ride with great wind protection I'll just jump on the FeeJeR with its last of the Cee Bailey shields. Can't take the curves as well but look out on the straight sections.:brad
