I found the link to this video on the ADV website for the new Triumph Tiger motorcycles (also 3 cylinders).

It gives a very nice explanation about the benefits of the 3 cylinder engine configuration -

Very nice! I have always had a thing for 3-cylinder engines - a string of K75s and a 1998 Triumph Thunderbird Sport 900. That bike convinced me that BMW should have made a K90 - a three cylinder version of the K1200 4 cylinder engine. Ah...missed opportunities.
