Hi, I recently bought the bike, and am new to BMW bikes. What a fabulous motorcycle!
It loves 4000 rpm and is right in the power on the highway, which is my commute. I'm fine with five gears, I never consider gearing down to pass, the engine has really usable torque, and pulls strong.
Changing the oil, and oil and air filter was easy, the valve adjustment was no more complicated than my Honda outboard, the throttle-body adjustment took some time. I made a clear tube manometer and got it close, and then rode with a 10 mm wrench in my jacket and moved the wire a 16th of a turn until it is now perfect, took some time, but the engine now feels like a gyroscope.
The telelever/paralever suspension is outstanding. I owned a Virago for many years and the shaft drive would raise up under acceleration, and the front would dive under hard breaking, this is such a stable, powerful motorcycle. The rear suspension damping adjustment really makes a difference, depending on your load, the front suspension doesn't have an adjustment, but is fine.
The ergonomics are great, the seat looks like an English saddle, large rubber footpegs and the bars are wide and keep my spine upright under the OEM fairing.
It is a heavy bike, and I have learned to stop and look into my turns at my sharp corners, lets just say its a big bike, and not flickable.
It's twenty years old, and the odometer is at 39997 kms, even the analog clock is spot on.
Great motorcycle.
