To Redmond - Info on Higher Elevation Riding Restrictions

As I get ready to plan my route to the rally I was thinking how many higher elevation routes would be open by the first week in June. What site I could use, or would some of the members be updating us the closer it gets. I'm in New Hampshire so I not that privy to local info.

Last year Beartooth Pass opened on May 26th. It can vary a great deal from year to year. The snow load in the mountains around Helena is below average; not sure about the Beartooth area. It is quite common for the pass to reclose after opening due to a heavy snow.

The Going to the Sun Road typically opens in late June to mid-July (https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/news/logan-pass-opening-and-closing-dates.htm). You need to check their site for the rules this year regarding reservations. If it is the same as the past few years you can get in without a reservation if you are there early, when the gates open. Always best to ride the road from east to west because the majority of the traffic is from west to east and turns around at the Logan Pass visitor’s center.

You’d need to check GttS on the NPS website anyway as I think reservations are required now, unless one shows up in the early early morn.
You need a reservation for Glacier if you enter the park between 6AM and 3PM.
Each National Park has different hours that require a reservation.

Thanks for the info. I check Glacier today and from St. Mary where I had planned I didn't need reservation. But from what I read they didn't think GTS would be opened before mid June . Thanks again for your help.

When we were concerned about fires in the 90s in Colorado, we used the Anonymous Book to contact some locals.
