Southwest MOA Forum Death Valley Ride - 01/17/2015 to 01/19/2015

Let's have a change in scenery and head to Death Valley on Saturday, January 17 and return to Phoenix on Sunday, January 19. We'll stay two nights at the Best Western Pahrump Station ( http://bestwesternnevada.com/hotels/best-western-pahrump-station ).

BeemerDonS and Son Seth (18) will see you Southwest MOA Forumites Saturday night 1/17 at the Best Western Pahrump Lobby at 1800 hours, we will decide on a restaurant and all go out to Dinner together! http://visitpahrump.com http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g45986-Pahrump_Nevada.html JSNS!

Route map: https://goo.gl/maps/0a2V6

State Route 190 from Panamint Springs Resort to Padre Crowley Point may be the best 8 miles of road around. We'll also visit Dante's View, Badwater and other points of interest as time permits.

Following photos are from FJR Rider Dave "Niehart" Black from the 2009 Death Valley Daze:

BeemerDonS and his 2005 BMW R1150RT "Ingrid":

Left to Right are Highlander, johnny80s, bbolesaz, Fairlaner and Papa Chuy Viejo laying out the next day's routing; which was well over 400 miles all in DVNP!

On the left is David "Orestes" Clarke from Kent, England; Dave flew over from Blighty for a month and borrowed my 2003 FJR Lucy Liu, while BDS rode his R1150RT with Orestes.

OK FJRiders, who did you think was the rider that did the face plant on this Moto? Who on this Forum could break a bowling ball if you gave him half a chance? Don Carver, of course!

Bring your heated gear and long underwear on this DVNP ride. Here is an AZ Beemers photograph from the 2010 Death Valley Daze: Do you AZB's remember the snow we rode through on that freezing trip? We froze our asses off on that icy ride, ese! jes' sayin' and nuff said, Brrrrrr!

Rarely does five minutes pass in Old Town Kingman without a Burlington Northern Santa Fe highballer!

When Seth and I finally move to the Oregon coast, we want to buy forest land and a caboose to live in.

Seth is shooting most of these photos from his pillion passenger seat on our BMW K1200GT at speed.

This emergency signal rock pile was built by a BMW R1200GS rider whose final drive blew up, he died!

Many years before Seth was born DaddyDon had a Corvette roadster, want to get another with Seth.

Seth (18) and DaddyDon have been riding our Motos to Death Valley National Park every Winter for the last 10 years, the following photos are all taken by Seth on his new Nikon Birthday Camera.

Many of these photographs were taken by Seth at high speed from his passenger pillion seat on our 2012 BMW K1600GT, he's becoming an excellent photographer and also loves our SW Deserts.

My Son Seth and I saw something we haven't seen before at Death Valley National Park, Coyotes standing out in the roadway. We saw one at the East entrance near Death Valley Junction, another at the intersection of Stovepipe Wells road and Scottie's Castle road Intersection and the last one at the Southern edge of DVNP at Jubilee Pass. I was afraid to slow the BMW K16GT down too much just in case these Coyotes were rabid, but it appears that they are standing in the middle of the highway to beg for food from passing Motorists!

What killed the GS rider ?

"What killed the GS rider?" It was embarrassment Ron, he had traded in his 2006 Yamaha FJR on a 2009 BMW R12GS!

From AZ Beemers Club Member Charles "mymidlife" Ratliff:

A big thanks to Tony and the entire group that went on this trip. I personally enjoyed getting to know another facet of the AZBeemers! Kinda like watching the Speed Channel! We swapped a lot of stories and shared some fun experiences over the weekend. Below is a link to my picture set, certainly one reason I'm always lagging ;) and since some of the pics might be redundant (shots taken in DV by others that I've seen were excellent!) you can divide the pics into three parts: 1) Death Valley, 2) Scotty's Castle and 3) Hoover Dam and Tillman Bridge. They are in pretty tight order so feel free to sail through to what you might want to see. :)

Thanks again to all and see you on the roads!
