Remove/clean fuel pump sock (late model K)

Zagando

BMW uber alles!
Took the fuel pump out to inspect it well.

The sock/screen on the bottom seems to have rocks inside it---perhap some kind of media to keep it from collapsing?

Anyway, it could use a cleaning.

Can I pry it off and soak it in acetone or Simple Green/rinse/dry or should I attempt to brush it or soak it while still attached the the pump?

Sock update

I got it pried off and while the metal ring that snaps onto the pump inlet was rusty all is well otherwise.

It is now soaking in Simple Green and will be put back in service after rinsing and drying.:dance

Oops!

After drying I reinspected the sock---has a tiny hole in it so will order a new one pronto. Glad I took another look with my microscope (sometimes I think it's worth it's weight in gold!).
