question about the "red zip tie" on the wiring loom rubber holder

Hi folks,

I'm putting a new wiring harness into my 1971 R75/5 project
I was using Brooks' article on the job.
he mentions, and pictures... (I didn't want to steal his picture and infringe on his property) a red zip tie that holds this block below... together when completed.

My bike came to me with the wrong seat, and no tank.... alot of things are not "stock" and so I've been trying to discern what I'm missing
I had no red zip tie on my project.

- does anyone know if the early years also used the "red" zip tie
- or did this start on a later year of bike?
- finally... If I'm missing and need one of these "red zip ties" I don't see them on the fische, and wondered if anyone knew a source?

thanks in advance.
here is the rubber wiring block I'm speaking of:new.jpg

Here was a discussion about a year ago:

https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthrea...g-rubber-looking-for-picture-of-how-it-mounts

This page shows for a /7, the support block and the zip tie:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=0333-USA-09-1977-2474-BMW-R_100_7T&mg=16&sg=11

If you click on the zip tie part number, you will see that it was used on a ton of vehicles...the /5 doesn't appear to be one of them.

This page is for a '71 /5, the support block is shown but not the zip tie:

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0260-EUR-01-1971-2476-BMW-R75_5&diagId=16_0233

If it were me, I'd find something to secure the bottom side of the support.

They sell RED zip ties at Walmart. Voni bought some. :)

thank you Kurt

agreed... my bundle of wires in the support block will benefit from something tied around it.

I just ordered 50 red ones from Mcmaster-Carr

if anyone else needs one, I have extra
message me and I can send you one in an envelope

Lost

I lost both of my bike's little red things long time ago to no determent. LOL, most of the rats nest in my wiring harnesses are hidden by the gas tank, out of sight out of mind. Everything stays in place just fine without the thingy. I am picky about things and like things just right but so far, this has not caused me any anxious moments.

At least not enough to pay Bite My Wallet prices for ones if BMW still stocks them. Mac Master Carr would be my first place to look, if I don't just zip tie it first. St.

LOL, thanks Brant, save the postage, I do appreciate the thought and offer. Merry Christmas, you are very generous. Enjoy the ride if you are not snowed or salted out of it. St.
