Farmers and Merchants Union Bank (Columbus, Wisconsin)
Farmers and Merchants Union Bank built in 1919
This bank building was one of the few "jewel box" banks designed by Louis Sullivan. This small bank of red/brown bricks has Sullivan's trademark terra cotta ornamental trim
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976
The bank manager was glad not to have his bank used as a set for a robbery scene.

Decked out with cactus props, Beaver Dam's Wisconsin's Ambassador Hotel is transformed into Tucson's Hotel Congress
Dillinger's Tucson Capture
January 1934 John Dillinger and his seven-member gang thought Tucson seemed like the perfect place to lay low.
Tucson Police in five hours, without firing a single shot, did what the combined forces of several states and the FBI had failed to do: Capture Public Enemy No. 1.
Dillinger was later sent to a jail in Crown Point, Ind. But on March 3, 1934, Dillinger forced the guards to open his cell door. He stole two machine guns and fled.
Many of us have traveled Interstate 90 past Mauston, Wisconsin. At 80 MPH, you probably didn't noticed a Kwik Trip Truck Stop truck sign that kinda looks like just another sign. A closer look will disclose a real tractor trailer.
I have driven many times past this Wisconsin farm. At 55 MPH, I didn't noticed advertising of a hotel in La Crosse. Taking a second glance I realized the Roesler's have a sense of humor.
Most farmers call their prized bovines "moo bossie" and Roesler calls his barn "Bossie mootel".

Timber Bridge Linky
Michigan Highway 26 glue-laminated timber bridge spans the Eagle River. The bridge blends in well with the scenic Eagle River, and structurally it was designed to carry the same traffic loads as State Highway concrete and steel bridges.
The total length of the wooden bridge is just over 152 ft, and it stands 50 ft above the Eagle River. Supported by two, side-by-side 42 ft half arches spanning 75 ft, measure 60 in. deep and 14 in. wide., the bridge is primarily made of timber, with the connector parts made of steel. The bridge has 4-in. diameter chrome steel pins for any rotational movement of the arches.
Enough lumber was used in the bridge to build three or four average sized houses.
