As I rode up the Snake on Mulholland this morning at 7 am in the fog and drizzle, then up PCH to watch the surfers at County Line I wondered (again) why I spent the last 30 years riding everything but BMWs. 7 HDs including 3 CVOs, Triumph Bonnevilles old and new (also had a Rocket III for a while, that was an E ticket), a BSA twin star 500 and a norton commando back when I was a lot younger, lots of dirt bikes, even a Ural for awhile. Still have a Ducati 848Evo in the garage I inherited from my son. Traded the '15 CVO Street Glide with 30k on it (!) even up out the door for a loaded 'executive' '15 K1600GT with 250 miles on it. I think I made out, if the dealer thinks he did too, bless him. Recent family changes and a 65th Birthday said it was time to change. I seem to be joining a lot of ex HD guys......
I ride all over, back and forth to NorCal, AZ and Nevada for fun and business, rode up and back to Sturgis in 15 and 16, and I've been looking for someone crazy enough to do an Iron Butt with me coast to coast to coast. The first 2500 miles on this bike makes me look for excuses to ride even more, went riding in the rain the other day just to test the settings. I grew up on the East Coast riding in all kinds of weather but you lose the taste for it on a Harley in SoCal.
I did spend a lot of time both before and after purchase here lurking and learning, and I already owe you all a collective Thank You! for what I've been able to figure out with your help. I am not a big chatterer on groups like this but will chime in if I do have something to contribute.
Thanks again, see you on the road somewhere
