Hi All,

Just joined BMW MOA after 15 years of owning my 1996 R1100R.

I'm currently close to pulling the trigger on a 2011 or 2012 R1200RT. I started out looking at the K1300S and even the S1000RR but 10 minutes in the saddle of each convinced me left my hands and wrist sore.... I was completely bummed as I had instantly fallen in love with the engine, acceleration, and handling of both. From what I'm reading on the boards it seems the hand and wrist discomfort is not something that will disappear with time as I get used to the bike... If anyone can tell me different it would be appreciated as I can't seem to get either K engined bike out of my head....

As far as the RT goes, well it was just so confidence inspiring and comfortable as soon as I got on I did not want to bring it back....

Now to justify the cost for one of these new machines....

I'm looking forward to learning more about and doing more with the BMW MOA.

Dan

Welcome to the forum. These bikes can be addicting, don't you know! I can't help you much with the extreme riding positions. I did ride someone's R75/6 with Euro bars this weekend for only 15-20 minutes. Later in the day, my neck muscles were sore from holding my head up. Not my cup of tea!

Hope you can find some answers on the forum...

S1000rr

Welcome!
I used to ride in the Catskills from NYC to Upstate NY. Rt17 was a nice route.
I have an S1000RR and after some conditioning (a few rides) my wrists were fine. I have a '93 R100RT and actually the S1000RR is more comfortable. No monkey butt and very smooth. Pretty quick, also. The "S" is smaller and the suspension is easily adjusted for a softer ride.
Good luck in your search.

Welcome Dan.
I had trouble justifying the price of new RT and settled for slightly used one. Like you, I started looking at the K bikes. No regrets yet.

Thanks Campbell

In the end I think my practical side is going to win out and I'll end up on an RT but based on what you've told me I owe myself another test ride on the S.

Congratulations on your good fortune by the way and thanks for the very informative post regarding the experience.

Dan

Thanks 175887

I'm sure as well I'd be thrilled with a new or slightly used RT. It will have more performance built into it than I could ever use as well as some features that'll allow me to use it more of the year. Ultimately the RT is probably where I'm going but that K engine just won't get out of my head just yet.....
