Hi,

New member. Picked up my new to me 2016 R1200RT at the beginning of July. Still taking it easy with getting used to it. Largest bike I've ever ridden. Man is it smooth on the highway....(wait, I'm doing 80 already? what?)

Before that I've ridden occasionally on an older Honda Nightwing I've had since the late 80's.

Always wanted an RT and in April my college roommate and best man told me of a trip he's planning with a group to Fairbanks & Denali next June. Marker was laid down to get a bike to handle that trip so I found this beauty. Now I have to get ready riding-wise and equipment-wise for next June. Looking for group or even personal training near me (beyond MSF training) to help me be more proficient on this bike.

Trip of a lifetime.

I'm sure you're going to have a blast. I hope the club can help you be best prepared for this awesome excursion!

Willkommen Mr KAS, from the MOAL Riders in the Tennessee River valley section of North Alabama!

Here’s a tip, just for U! Don’t go telling everybody in the whole state of Indiana... :)

When we visited Alaska (when the Canadians had their borders closed), we very much enjoyed our stays at the Chena Hot Springs Resort (tell Bernie we said “Hey!”).<<< https://chenahotsprings.com >>>

And we very much were spoiled by the friendly folks at the Lodge at Black Rapids!

Get your reservations in early; you won’t regret spending the extra travel savings!

Happy Trails whenever U can - Ciao!

Welcome kasommer! Sounds like you've got the right mindset for the excursion. Posting a pic or two of the RT is always an appreciated effort.

Welcome!

I, too, am a new member... and I, too, am in Bloomington, IN (southside, near Batchelor). Just purchased my 3rd Beemer. This one is an R1200GS (2017). My first "R" bike. Previous two were an F650GS Dakar, and a K1200RS (that's where I got my username/email).

Absolutely loving the riding dynamics of the R bike compared to the previous two... like night and day.

Welcome Flybrick & Kasommer

This is the ROC, I’m just 3 blocks south of BSHS. Been riding Beemers since 86, and a BMWMOA since 88. I’m on my third BMW 15 R12GSA, the first two were 85 K100RS and 98 K12RS. Hopefully we can meet up sometime this fall.
