BMW DONATES RMB 1 MILLION TO EARTHQUAKE DISASTER RELIEF IN SICHUAN PROVINCE
05/15/2008

Appeal for all BMW dealers and customers to join forces to combat the disaster
Munich/Beijing. The powerful earthquake which hit Sichuan Province with a magnitude of 7.8 caused severe damage in the area and BMW China and BMW Brilliance have responded with prompt action. BMW donated RMB 1,000,000 to the Red Cross Society of China for the eathquake disaster relief and assigned 3 units of BMW X3 for the rescue team to help disaster relief. At the same time, BMW appealed to all BMW dealers and customers to provide their support as much as possible to join forces in times of hardship. BMW staff have also started to donate funds and the donations will be sent to the earthquake-hit area.

The Red Cross Society of China commented, "The disaster relief needs efforts from all walks of life and social resources home and abroad. Guided under the Red Cross Spirit of 'Humanity, Charity, and Dedication', BMW took action immediately. This initiation showing BMW's care and responsibility is worthy of commendation and recommendation. We dedicate our sincere thanks to BMW."

Mr. Alfred Rupp, President and CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., said, "BMW has a long-term commitment to China and integrates to the Chinese social development. It is our duty, without hesitation, to help people in the disaster-afflicted area get through the difficulties. We will continue the internal donating activity, expressing our care to the victims to fulfil our social responsibility as a corporate citizen."

As a matter of fact, taking active participation in the public welfare has always been one of BMW's corporate objectives. Earlier this year, BMW took the lead among auto manufacturers to donate 1 million RMB to the China Charity Federation for disaster relief in snow-stricken area in southern China.
In addition, BMW China and BMW Brilliance have called on the authorized dealers and BMW customers nationwide to participate in the relief campaign to lend a helping hand to the people in disaster area. Up to now, Beijing Yanbao Group, a BMW authorized dealer in Beijing has donated 450,000 RMB. Chongqing Baosheng donated 50,000 RMB, and will contribute 1,000 RMB for each car sold from now to the end of this month. Also, Chengdu Dajin and Chengdu Bow Yue, BMW dealers in Chengdu, nearest to the disaster area have organized all the staff members to donate blood to the injured. More dealers and customers will join BMW in the relief efforts to combat the disaster together.

In the tire tracks of a legend: BMW 328 at the 2008 Mille Miglia
05/14/2008

Munich/Brescia. It was 70 years ago that BMW first entered its 328 model in the Mille Miglia. For this year's anniversary appearance, BMW will be following the historic example by deploying four of these legendary roadsters in the event. Joining them will be the BMW 328 Berlin-Rom racing variant from 1941 as well as a BMW 327 Convertible and a 327/28 Coup?®. With nine private teams entering, a total of 16 BMW cars will be lining up in Brescia for the start of the 2008 Mille Miglia.

For the first time this year, BMW's heritage division will be debuting under its new designation BMW Classic. "Taking part in such a tradition-rich event with our new name is very special for us," said the Director of BMW Classic, Karl Baumer. "And the fact that we will be on the road exactly 70 years after the first BMW 328 lends extra appeal to the race," he added. But the achievements of those historic forerunners are unlikely to be surpassed: 70 years ago the teams in their BMW 328s swept up the first four places in the 2000 cc class and majestically claimed the team trophy in the regularity race.

"Landing on Planet Life Ball" - Life Ball MINI 2008 by Agent Provocateur prepares to land in Vienna. First public appearance on 17 May on the red carpet outside Vienna's City Hall.
05/14/2008

Munich / Vienna. "Landing on planet Life Ball" - on the evening of 17 May 2008, Life Ball will be inviting guests on a trip through time in which bridges will be built to supposedly alien cultural universes which actually exist next to each other and the infinite opportunities of social coexistence energetically highlighted. In line with these concepts, the Agent Provocateur lingerie label has designed the Life Ball MINI 2008. The new MINI Cooper Clubman has been selected as the basis for this exclusive, unique design. Agent Provocateur, founded by Serena Rees and her husband Joseph Corre, son of fashion creator Vivienne Westwood, is famous for its wickedly burlesque collections.

295670720_h4ctX-M.jpg

"It has been a lot of fun to lend our unique brand identity to the MINI Clubman. The new shape is reminiscent of the old English Mini police van that we were immediately inspired to create an Agent Provocateur styled interior that you really would want to get banged up in! A classic yet suped up exterior in Agent Provocateur signature pink and black colours complete with pink flashing light and inside.....the most seductive prison cell with hand to wall cuffs and blacked out windows and iron bars!

Ever mindful that the long arm of the law needs ample space when interrogating a captive prisoner, we have supplied our Agent Provocateur police car with fully reclining rear seats and ankle cuffs for forensic investigation. With saddle stitched leather seat and bespoke compartments for the note pad and pen, the Agent Provocateur MINI police van is the perfect patrol car for checking the offending publics undercover credentials wouldn't you say"says Joseph Corre.

295671661_GggJY-M.jpg

At the first public appearance of the MINI by Agent Provocateur, Joseph Corre, the create of the unique design, will be behind the steering wheel himself - along with a "breath-taking" passenger, of course - and will drive the MINI across the red carpet outside Vienna's City Hall for the start of the Life Ball Opening Show.

After the Life Ball, the unique MINI will be auctioned worldwide on eBay (www.ebay.at) from 5-15 June. The proceeds will be donated to Life Ball, as they are every years. So far, the "Life Ball MINIs" - transformed by such famous fashion icons as Missoni, Ferr?® and Versace - have raised a total of Ôé¼ 260,000.-.

NEW JERSEY MOTORCYCLISTS NEED YOU AND YOU NEED THEM!

Is this the end for Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)? The Motorcycle
Riders Foundation Political Action Committee (MRFPAC) thinks that it could
be if you want it to be. Frank Lautenberg has been the number one
proponent of a national motorcycle helmet law for many years. The helmet
effectiveness debate aside, you must agree that making this type of law
should not be mandated by Washington, but should instead be decided in
your state capitol where you have a voice. If Lautenberg had his way,
your voice on this issue would be silenced.

There are a few other things about Senator Lautenberg that you should
know. First, Lautenberg currently either chairs or sits on every single
Senate committee and subcommittee related to transportation, without
exception. Second, we are going to begin negotiating another highway bill
next year, and if Lautenberg is in charge we will see mandatory federal
helmet initiatives of many kinds. Third, continuing the current 2010
motorcycle safety grant funds for which the Motorcycle Riders Foundation
(MRF), state motorcyclists' rights organizations, and motorcyclists
nationwide fought so hard in the last highway bill, and doing anything to
curb the lobbying activities of the National Transportation Safety Board
(NTSB) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
will be nearly impossible with Lautenberg at the helm, and he will be if
he wins his next election.

Lautenberg can be defeated, but not without your help. Lautenberg is
running for his 5th term in the US Senate, which would be his 30th year
serving in his current role, and he hasn't faced a strong opponent until
now.

U.S. Representative Rob Andrews, a fellow Democrat, announced his bid for
the seat just over one month ago. Pollsters and pundits predicted that
Andrews' late start and rag-tag group of campaign staffers would fail
instantly. The critics could not have been more wrong. Andrews hit the
ground running and has only run harder and harder with each day. He now
has a very legitimate chance of winning the June 3rd primary against
Lautenberg, and would then go on to face the Republican challenger. The
GOP hasn't won a senate seat in the Garden State since 1972, and New
Jersey doesn't appear to be breaking from that tradition this year.
Andrews is picking up endorsements from high-profile voting blocks left
and right. He is winning the support of New Jersey voters who are ready
for change and a new direction for their state. Andrews could very well
win this race, but not without your help.

Andrews has also given his written commitment to motorcyclists that he
will NEVER support a mandatory helmet law of any kind and will continue to
fight for freedom of choice when it comes to personal protective
equipment.

Rob Andrews needs your help. Closing the gap against Lautenberg, which
Andrews is doing, takes money. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation Political
Action Committee (MRFPAC) made one of the largest donations it has ever
made to campaign of any kind to Andrews for Senate. MRFPAC is asking you
to do the same thing. Anyone across this entire country can donate to
Andrews for Senate. You don't have to be from New Jersey, and in fact the
motorcyclists of New Jersey can't do this without your help. Andrews
needs money and he needs it now.

Donating to Andrews' campaign could not be easier. Simply go online to
http://robandrewsforchange.com/ and donate as little $10 or as much as
$2300, which is the maximum donation for an individual. Any amount you
can afford will help. Federal PACs can donate up to $5000.

This is a rare political opportunity for the motorcyclists of this
country. Some might call it the perfect storm. Rarely does a rising
political star rock the boat of a Senior Senator and actually stand a
chance. We have that chance with Rob Andrews, but we must act soon.
Supporting Andrews financially is the best way to see him take
Lautenberg's seat in the Senate.

Paid for by Motorcycle Riders Foundation Political Action Committee
(MRFPAC) through voluntary donations from its members and their families.
MRFPAC has qualified as a multi-candidate committee. MRFPAC can only
solicit MRF members for donations. MRFPAC contributions are not tax
deductible.

The previous article was presented for information purposes. The Morning Reads does not endorse any political candidates, PACs or take a position on this subject. I subscribe to a great number of newsletters and pass things along.

Great Suggestion! :clap

Now who in our family gets to ride with Ray?

StatDawg can be the emergency medical officer.

I know we have a chopper pilot in the Orlando area.

Who else wants to ride? I had enough helicopter rides courtesy to the Marines and their big green machines.

What motorcycle shall we put on board? How about an F800GS? Oh! Right! Not available.

You will have to paint it black to match the rest of the fleet!

Can MOA justify it ? How about if it was used for route scouting ? As they do now in Nevada looking for the next west Rally site. Area 205 ? Or 404 ?

I suppose forum posters would get upset if Rob or Knary flew it and did a ride report. Lets see we need an exotic distination.................:scratch Zanzibar ? Or one of Tesslers creaky floor hang out's on the south side.

Who makes the Helicopter ? It doesn't look like the Yankee Beemer version because there is no racks for pizza or donuts.

As far as medical staff goes rgvilla has what it takes and don't forget Pat Carol.

Tomarrow M1ka will answer the question " Where can I land my helicopter at National " ?

You land it on the landing gear, silly. Look at the picture, it is clearly deployed. :brad
