Klim Krios Helmet Review

We just both upgraded to new Klim Krios Helmets. You can read our review, if you follow the link below there is also a video. If you are interested in their new TK1200 Modular or K1 Street helmet the shell is constructed of carbon fiber and they use the same interior materials. We can't speak to the quietness of the helmets or the aero but you would have to assume if they can make an adventure helmet aero friendly and quiet the other two are a piece of cake.

Klim Krios Helmet

We are really excited to own our new Klim Krios helmets. I was wearing an Arai XD4 and Beth an Arai RX-Q. These are both premium helmets packed with great features and a rock solid reputation. So how does the new Klim Krios stack up to our old helmets? We hope to answer that for you.

First of all the major story here besides the fact Klim has jumped into the adventure helmet market with both feet is the weight of the helmet. The Krios is the lightest adventure helmet in North America. The Krios is 6 ounces lighter than the Arai XD4, 11 ounces lighter than the Shoei and 8 ounces lighter than Beth's RX-Q. On paper that might not seem like a lot but believe us when we say it is a huge weight reduction. If you own a similar helmet to our old helmets you will feel it when you pick up the Krios. Wear it on your head and it feels like a feather by comparison. This is where you begin to see the benefits of a full carbon fiber shell. One of our concerns was the trade offs with this weight reduction. We were concerned about wind noise and aerodynamic lift with such a light helmet. The southwest is nothing but windy so this is an important consideration. Not only is this not an issue with the Krios but an improvement in wind noise and lift. The new Krios is much quieter than either of our previous helmets and no lift at 80 mph highway speeds in Utah. We may be guilty of exceeding that speed limit on occasion and still have had no issues.

The inside of the helmet is really a nice soft Klimatek fabric. We have found this to be much softer than our previous helmets. The fabric is also moisture wicking and anti-microbial. The pads are easily removable for washing and they are made to accommodate a Sena Bluetooth system. Venting is excellent with 10 vents located around various points on the shell. This coupled with the smart foam technology in the pads makes for a comfortable day in the saddle. The shield is quick change shield which requires no tools. This cannot be said for many adventure helmets that require a screw driver. The Krios has a lever on each side you can easily turn with your fingers to release the shield. This was welcome change for cleaning purposes alone. The field of vision on this helmet is also excellent. While we do not currently run goggles but the Krios will accommodate the Klim Radius Moto goggles. Now that we can wear them we will invest in some soon. I see another review in our future.

The helmet is offered in a Stealth Matte Black which really shows off the hand laid carbon fiber weave or Element Matte White. The helmet comes with one clear shield and one black shield that both are pinlock ready. Also included is a clear pinlock shield and lined helmet bag. This all for around $549 which may seem pricey but is a bargain compared to other premium helmets in this category. Klim also offers a 5 year crash protection guarantee to replace your helmet or other gear in case of an accident which is included with each purchase. Those details can be found at www.klim.com.

Overall we really like this helmet. It is a bit different than what we have been wearing for two years but the break-in period has really been easy. No hot spots or sore ears. These are an intermediate oval shape so they should fit most head shapes. We actually both went down a full helmet size on the Krios so make sure you measure your head before ordering. If I had paid attention to the size chart on Klim's website I wouldn't have had to return my helmet the first time. That being said customer service was awesome which another plus to doing business with Klim. Sound like a corporate shill yet? Good, we honestly don't have anything bad to say. We could wish for more colors but I'm sure that is coming after they have established this new helmet. They are offering some different highlights on the new K1R and TK1200 and of course the new F3 is offered in a rainbow of colors. You could spend more and do worse than this helmet. We did which is why we are happy and give it the 2uptogether two thumbs up! Ok, it became a thing, watch the video. Any questions email us at 2uptogether@gmail.com or better yet contact the great people at Klim.

The Klim helmet at $549 is not too bad for a premium helmet but is the Klim a premium helmet. This is a rebranded Nishua helmet that was previously marketed in the US under the Laser brand. It's a mid-priced helmet in Europe so why it it considered a premium helmet in the US. Because it now has a K on it?
