Interested in Lake Superior Loop Ride after 2014 St Paul rally?

This is the way I am going TO the Rally

I've been planning this trip for a few months now. A number of hotels are already booked but I will camp a few nights as well. Coming from Milwaukee straight north to Houghton, MI on Thur July 17th and riding the loop counter-clock wise. Houghton, MI - Munising, MI - Sault Ste. Marie, MI - White River, ON, CA - Thunder Bay, ON, CA -Duluth, MN (Superior, WI) - St. Paul, MN.

Macinac Island question

We will be riding the loop clockwise to St Ignace after the rally. We want to visit Mackinac and wondered where the best/safest place is to park the bikes for the day when we ride the ferry over. Recommendations would be appreciated.

The ferry operators have secure parking on site. They have a vested interest to protect your property while taking folks hours/days away from their property to the island. Recommend using your cover though. I'm with three on that loop after MOA also.

I know for sure that the operator of the one of the ferries (slow one) offers an indoor free parking for motorcycles only. Make sure to rent a bike (the pedal type) on the island, it's the best way to discover the island, in my opinion.

linda and I will be leaving wisconsin July 26 , we can't make the rally but will head up to duluth and then make the trip around lake superior and would like to join you if it works

One of our trips when we spent several nights on the island we used the inside storage provided by Sheplers.
It was well worth it as the first night there was a nasty storm and I didn't have to worry about the bikes blowing over.

If you have time, one of the lighthouse cruises is interesting. We did this last year and really enjoyed it.
